Synopsis

A different kind of love story.

Francis and Blake Falls are Siamese twins who live in a neat little room in a rundown hotel. While sharing some organs, Blake is always fit and Francis is very sickly. Into their world comes a young lady, who turns their world upside down. She gets involved with Blake, and convinces the two to attend a Halloween party, where they can pass themselves off as wearing a costume. Eventually Francis becomes really ill, and they have to be separated. They then face the physical and mental strains that come from their proposed separation.

There's something very alluring about this film. Something really mystical and intriguing. It might be the opening 20 minutes which is more Lynchian than some Lynch films. Or maybe the fact that the viewer really needs to know what happens to these reclusive, aloof conjoined twins that are central to the story.

The last 30 minutes doesn't really match the rest of the film and it ends with a bit of a whimper but it is quite beautiful in parts, and definitely has the feel of a B-Movie cult classic to it. Glad I watched it.

I do very much wish the Polish brothers would go back to trying to be David Lynch, because they were so, so good at it here.
a super weird movie... despite that it still made me very emotional. with a plot like this you would expect a lot of humor, but it's played straight basically the whole time. it's very quiet and thoughtful and most of the time the characters are whispering. it was super unique so yeah i'd recommend, there are barely any movies similar to this.
Twin Falls Idaho, the much lauded debut feature from the Brothers Polish, is a truly unique film, one that could only have been made by twin brothers determined to do things their own way. Having come at the film having worked my way through their subsequent attempts to recapture this early magic I felt suitably prepared to experience a somewhat sombre yet visually appealing affair about the death of conjoined twins. Yes it is that but it's also so much more, it's a beautiful, mesmerising affair full of their trademark slightly surreal imagery and bizarre characters and centred around the incredibly believable performance of the twin filmmaker-actors. Of course it helps dramatically that Michele Hicks is stunning to look at for any red blooded male.
Although the Lynch inspirations are apparent, the Polish brothers first directorial outing falls just short of the mark in about every way, delivering a well-made but entirely bland and almost lifeless story about life & loss that not even decent performances or grimy visuals can salvage. Still, the potential is there, it just seems it wasn't fully realised until Northfork 4 years later.
this was the most vintage viewing experience. i couldn't find it anywhere online to stream, so i ordered a used dvd of this VERY 90s indie movie from a video store in texas. i'm glad it was good because it was a bit of a hassle to watch to be honest
The screenplay is uneven but without wanting to sound crass it is unusual and importantly it keeps the melodrama to a minimum. There are some fine humorous touches that help to alleviate the depressing soundtrack although the end credits are worth listening to.

Very emotional and also a great watch. Everything in this film was beautifully presented. Blake and Francis Falls' story tugged at my heart strings, leaving me to feel honestly a bit empty. It's not a story you hear of often due to it's rarity in nature, yet you can guess exactly how things will play out.

This brings out the only complaint I have—if I can even call it one—which I will explain in a second.
The movie went exactly as you'd imagine. From the second you're shown one thing, you can gather the rest of the plot on your own. However, as I say that, I ask:
Is predicability in a film always a bad thing?

Finally saw this oddball love story after 18 years. It's alright, way more sentimental than I expected and much of the acting (aside from pros like Lesley Ann Warren, Jon Gries, Patrick Bauchau, and William Katt in supporting roles) is rather flat.

I much prefer the Polish Brothers' 2003 film NORTHFORK, though I haven't watched in many years.
This is a rare movie. It is my second Polish film, and I'm understanding their style a bit more now. Both Northfork and Twin Falls Idaho are built by colorful characters, poverty, dispair, and other humanistic dwellings. Twin Falls is absolutely the more emotional of the two, though. It begs the viewer to consider the lives of the twins and forces a viewpoint from within their body. Once that view is established, it's impossible to shake off while watching what they go through.

The sub-character studies in this are like quick portraits with tons of gesture. Kind of like how Lynch would shoot a supporter. They aren't simply supporting - they seem as if they each could inspire their own…
