"Go Upwards! (Before the Dark Is Over)" is a 1990 song recorded by Belgian group Technotronic featuring Ya Child K. It was released as the 2nd single from the band's debut album, Pump Up the Jam: The Album (1989) on which it features equally the 2nd track. The single was very successful in many countries, becoming a meridian ten striking in Australia, Canada, and the US and topping the nautical chart in Belgium, Republic of finland, Spain and Switzerland. In 1998 and 1999, it was re-released respectively under the title "Get Upwardly (the '98 Sequel)" and "Go Up (the 1999 Sequel)". The song appears in Dance Trip the light fantastic toe Revolution Ultramix 4 and Dance Trip the light fantastic Revolution 3rd Mix. It contains a vocal sample of James Brownish's "Become Up, Become Into Information technology, Become Involved".[1] In 2007, the song was covered past Global Deejays (featuring Technotronic) who achieved a minor success in French republic.[2]
When the vocal entered the UK nautical chart at number three, it completed the kickoff ever UK Top three composed entirely of acts from exterior the UK or US, alongside the Australian Kylie Minogue and the Irish Sinéad O'Connor.

AllMusic editor Alex Henderson described the song as "highly infectious".[3] Bill Coleman from Billboard said it is "non equally catchy" equally the group'southward breakthrough smash.[iv] Nicole Leedham from The Canberra Times stated that the song, with "Pump Upwards the Jam", were "pushing the envelope of dance music in the late '80s."[5] A reviewer from Daily Mirror accounted it a "pounding" trip the light fantastic-floor runway.[6] Pan-European magazine Music & Media commented, "Can they practise it again? Chart operation [edit]
"Get Upwards! (Before the Night Is Over" was very successful on the charts on several continents. It went to number-one in Belgium, Republic of finland, Spain and Switzerland, as well equally on the Eurochart Hot 100. In addition, it reached number two in Republic of austria, French republic, West Germany, Ireland, the netherlands and the United Kingdom. In the latter, information technology peaked in its second week at the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland Singles Chart, on February four, 1990.[ix] It was held off reaching the acme spot past Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares ii U". Outside Europe, the single reached number-i on the Canadian RPM Trip the light fantastic/Urban chart likewise as in Republic of zimbabwe. On the US Billboard Hot 100, "Get Up!" managed to reach number seven and on the Billboard Hot Dance Social club Play, information technology peaked at number ii. In Australia and New Zealand, it went to number seven. The song was awarded with a gold record in the Usa, after 500,000 singles were sold, and a silver tape in France and the Great britain, with a sale of 205,000 and 200,000 units.
Music video [edit]
A music video was produced to promote the single. It features model Felly lipsynching the chorus with blueish lipstick and De Quincey playing the keyboards in the background. The video was later published on Technotronic'due south official YouTube aqueduct in June 2010. Information technology has received more than 49,9 meg views as of September 2021.[10]
